The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has debunked a viral report alleging that a naval officer who recently engaged in a heated exchange with the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, survived an assassination attempt.
Over the weekend, social media was flooded with claims that unidentified men trailing the officer in two unmarked Hilux vans attempted to attack him. The vehicles were said to be without number plates and allegedly followed the officer from the NIPCO Filling Station off the Line Expressway to Gado Nasco Way.
But in a swift reaction, the FCT Police Command dismissed the report as false.
In a statement released by the Command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, the Police made it clear that no such incident was reported or recorded anywhere within Abuja.
She stated, “The Command wishes to categorically state that no such incident has been reported or recorded anywhere within the Federal Capital Territory.”
Adeh urged the public to avoid spreading unverified online claims that can create unnecessary panic among residents.
She added that while there was no truth to the report, members of the public should remain alert and promptly report any suspicious activity to the nearest police division.
The Command reassured Abuja residents of its continued commitment to maintaining peace and safety across the FCT.
