The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has taken decisive action against landgrabbers, handing over a suspect to the Oyo State Directorate of State Security Service (DSS) on Tuesday, with two others still at large.

The move comes after a dispute between the Akoto and Ojofeitimi families over land along ICAST in Elebu, Ibadan. The conflict escalated after both families laid claim to the same parcel of land, prompting them to seek the intervention of the Olubadan.

Last month, the Olubadan-in-Council held a mini-hearing where both parties were invited to present their proof of ownership. At the time, the council instructed that there should be no further development or threats on the land pending investigation.

On Tuesday, the Olubadan Palace presented the outcome of the investigation. Surveyor Ajibade Bashiru Bolanle, Chairman of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers in Oyo State, confirmed that the land rightfully belongs to the Ojofeitimi family. While their survey plan was validated with a red copy, the Akoto family’s submission was found lacking.

The situation became tense when two of the three Akoto representatives failed to attend the presentation, and it was reported that one Kunle Ojofeitimi was allegedly assaulted during the dispute, requiring treatment at Adeoyo State Hospital.

Prominent traditional leaders were present at the palace, including Osi Olubadan Oba Abiodun Kola Daisi, Asipa Olubadan Oba Hamidu Ajibade, Asipa Balogun Oba Abiodun Azeez Agagagugu, and Ekerin Balogun Oba Mobolaji Akeem Adewoyin, as well as community leaders like Aare Mayegun of Ibadan, Chief Bayo Oyero, and Chief Niyi Ajewole.

With this decisive action, the Olubadan has sent a strong message against land grabbing in Ibadanland and reaffirmed his commitment to protecting rightful landowners and ensuring peace in the city.
