Gospel singer Bunmi Akinnaanu, widely known by her stage name Omije Oju Mi, has passed away. 

According to a post made by the family, the beloved gospel minister and singer died on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at a hospital in Lagos after battling a serious and prolonged illness that had recently drawn public concern. 

Akinnaanu rose to prominence with her soul-stirring music, particularly the hit “Omije Oju Mi” (which means “Tears of the Eyes”). She left a long career in banking to pursue gospel music full-time, and over the years built a passionate following for her emotional and inspiring ministry.

In the months leading up to her death, fans and fellow artists had been rallying around her as she openly sought healing and support while dealing with a debilitating leg ailment. 

Her passing has sparked an outpouring of grief across the Nigerian gospel music community and beyond.
