The Ogbomoso Grassroots Movement has come out strongly in defence of the Majority Leader of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Sanjo Adedoyin, warning the lawmaker representing Saki West State Constituency, Shittu Ibrahim, to focus on his legislative responsibilities instead of making what it described as “baseless and misleading allegations.”
In a statement issued and signed by its spokesperson, Michael Oyeleye, on Friday, the socio-political group described Hon. Adedoyin as a man of proven integrity and responsible leadership, insisting that recent comments attributed to Hon. Shittu Ibrahim were reckless and capable of bringing the legislature into disrepute.
According to the group, Hon. Adedoyin has demonstrated maturity, consistency and stabilising leadership since assuming office as Majority Leader, adding that the people of Ogbomoso remain proud of his conduct and performance at the Assembly.
“Our representative is a man of proven character and integrity. Anyone seeking relevance should face their legislative duties and stop distracting the peace-loving lawmakers of the Oyo State House of Assembly with careless and unfounded claims,” the group said.
The Ogbomoso Grassroots Movement further alleged that despite Hon. Shittu Ibrahim’s membership of several committees of the Oyo State House of Assembly, his contribution to committee assignments and legislative oversight had been minimal.
“We learnt on good authority that despite being a member of not less than seven committees of the House, Hon. Shittu Ibrahim has contributed little or nothing to committee work. He rarely makes himself available for legislative oversights and was not even present when a special ad-hoc oversight committee, of which he was a member, visited his local government in Saki West,” the statement claimed.
The group also alleged that Hon. Shittu Ibrahim had recorded frequent absences from plenary sessions since the inauguration of the 10th Oyo State House of Assembly in 2023.
“He absents himself from plenary sessions more than any other honourable member. He attends political gatherings to spread baseless allegations but has little time for constitutional duties assigned to him,” the statement added.
The group called on the leadership of the Oyo State House of Assembly to remain firm in enforcing discipline and upholding parliamentary ethics, stressing that public confidence in the legislature must not be undermined by the actions of a few lawmakers.
Reaffirming its support for peaceful and issue-based politics, the Ogbomoso Grassroots Movement said constituents of Ogbomoso South remained united behind Hon. Adedoyin.
“Legislative seats are not for grandstanding. The people expect service delivery, oversight and quality representation, not mudslinging or scandal hunting,” the group stated.
The group also demanded a public apology from Hon. Shittu Ibrahim over what it described as defamatory comments against the Majority Leader, warning that failure to do so could attract legal action.
“We are demanding an immediate public retraction and apology. If he fails to do the needful, we will explore all lawful options available to protect the image and integrity of our principal,” the statement concluded.
