Ogundoyin gave the message on Monday at the opening ceremony of the Oyo State @ 50 celebrations held at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan. He noted that since its creation in 1976, Oyo State has continued to grow in political relevance, cultural influence and economic importance, while making significant contributions to national development.
He commended successive administrations for their roles in sustaining the state’s reputation as the “Pacesetter,” saying the achievements recorded over the decades were the product of collective effort and continuity in governance.
“Oyo at 50 is not just a celebration of years; it is a celebration of collective achievements, shared aspirations, and the unwavering commitment of our people to the ideals of good governance and socio-economic advancement,” the Speaker said.
Ogundoyin lauded Governor Seyi Makinde for maintaining a governance approach focused on infrastructure renewal, education reforms, youth empowerment, agribusiness and economic expansion. He also acknowledged the contributions of past civilian and military leaders, traditional rulers, public institutions, the private sector, civil society organisations, the media and community groups in shaping the state’s development trajectory.
Calling for renewed commitment to progress, the Speaker urged residents to uphold peace, unity and civic responsibility, expressing optimism that the next 50 years would bring greater prosperity, political stability and infrastructural growth to Oyo State.
He prayed for continued peace and progress in the state and encouraged citizens at home and in the diaspora to remain committed to its development.
In his remarks, Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, Arusa 1 reflected on the roles of political actors and unsung heroes who shaped both the past and present of Oyo State, stressing the importance of remembering their contributions and sustaining the continuity of their work as a foundation for building a better future.
