Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde has inaugurated the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs, appointing the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, Arusa 1, as the first chairman of the revived council for a two-year term.
The historic ceremony, which took place at the House of Chiefs, Oyo State House of Assembly Complex, Agodi, Ibadan, marked the first meeting of the council in more than 15 years. Under the recently amended law, the chairmanship will rotate every two years among the three foremost traditional rulers in the state, the Olubadan, the Alaafin of Oyo and the Soun of Ogbomoso land to promote unity and cooperation among traditional institutions.
Governor Makinde explained that the rotation system was agreed upon by the monarchs, starting with the Olubadan as the pioneer chairman.
However, the event was notably marked by the absence of the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, who did not attend the inauguration.
The appointment of Oba Ladoja, a respected traditional ruler and former governor of Oyo State, is seen as a significant step toward strengthening traditional governance and fostering harmony across the state’s monarchial heritage.
