Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has directed his legal team to withdraw all pending court cases instituted in his name, including high-profile suits filed against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and other individuals.

The decision was announced on Thursday, January 1, 2026, during a New Year church service at Sacred Heart Parish, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, where Akpabio disclosed that the move followed reflections and counsel received during the service.

Akpabio explained that the lawsuits, many of which were defamation-related, had been filed in response to what he described as damaging allegations made against him in the past year. One of the most notable cases was a ₦200 billion defamation suit against Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan.

According to him, the decision to discontinue the legal actions was taken in the interest of peace, reconciliation and personal reflection at the start of the new year.

By ordering the withdrawal of all suits, the Senate President effectively brings to an end several legal battles that dominated political discourse in 2025. Formal processes to discontinue the cases are expected to commence immediately across the affected courts.

The development has continued to generate reactions across political circles, with many viewing the move as a conciliatory step as the nation enters 2026.
