The Oyo State House of Assembly has urged the National Assembly Committee on Constitution Amendment to review a memorandum proposing the elevation of existing Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Ogbomoso land to full-fledged Local Governments, with a specific call for the inclusion of Oriire South LCDA.

The resolution followed a motion moved by the lawmaker representing Oriire State Constituency, Hon. Johnson Ogundele, who raised concern that Oriire South LCDA, with headquarters at Ahoro-Dada, was omitted from the memorandum submitted to the Constitution Amendment Committee during a public hearing held on September 22, 2025.

Hon. Ogundele explained that the memorandum, presented by Dr. Niran Oyekale and Prince Akinloye Oyeniyi, sought constitutional recognition for LCDAs created under the Oyo State Local Government (Further Amendment) Law, 2016, but failed to reflect Oriire South despite its legal status under the same law.

He stressed that the omission, if not urgently corrected, could have negatively affected the people of Oriire and the wider Ogbomoso axis, describing it as a serious oversight that required immediate legislative intervention.

The House therefore called on the National Assembly Committee on Constitution Amendment to review the submission and ensure the inclusion of all legally recognized LCDAs in Ogbomoso land, namely Ogbomoso Central, Ogbomoso South-West, OgoOluwa West, Surulere North, Surulere South, Oriire South and Oriire North, as part of efforts to preserve equity, legality and the integrity of Nigeria’s constitutional review process.
