Confusion trailed Ibadan on Friday as the much-anticipated coronation ceremony went ahead despite earlier claims by the palace of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, Arusa 1, that the three High Chiefs slated for elevation would be unavailable.
The palace had also dismissed reports of a rift between the monarch and State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, insisting there was no disagreement and that the chiefs had formally requested a postponement.
However, on-the-ground reports suggest a different turn of events.
TruthVanta reports that the ceremony has commenced with the Deputy Governor, Barr Bayo Lawal and only a handful of members of the Olubadan-in-Council present. Also observed at the venue is the Deputy Chief of Staff, The Aseyin if Iseyin, with no significant representation from the palace leadership at the early stage of the event.
At the time of filing this report, the three chiefs earlier declared absent have arrived at the venue, while the Olubadan himself.
The development has raised fresh questions about the status of the ceremony and the earlier communication from the palace, as observers await further clarity on the situation.
