The Oyo State Police Command has announced the arrest of another suspected kidnapper linked to a notorious criminal syndicate previously apprehended in the state, as part of ongoing efforts to combat violent crimes, particularly kidnapping for ransom.
According to a press release issued on April 6, 2026, the latest arrest underscores the Command’s sustained momentum in dismantling criminal networks across Oyo State.
The suspect, identified as Taye Adamu, was arrested on April 5, 2026, at about 4:50 p.m. in Iluju Village by operatives attached to the Ikoyi-Ile Division. The arrest followed credible intelligence and a series of coordinated follow-up operations.
Police authorities revealed that the suspect is strongly believed to be a member of the same syndicate whose members were earlier apprehended on April 4, 2026, in possession of an AK-47 rifle around Ikoyi-Ile.
During interrogation, Adamu reportedly confessed to his involvement in multiple kidnapping and other violent criminal activities within the area. His confession has provided investigators with valuable leads, further confirming earlier intelligence about the structure and operations of the criminal group.
The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, has since directed that the suspect be transferred to the State Anti-Kidnapping Squad for a thorough and discreet investigation. Efforts are also being intensified to track down and arrest other fleeing members of the syndicate.
The Police Commissioner commended the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for his leadership and continued support in the fight against violent crimes. He also praised the operatives involved for their professionalism and resilience.
In addition, the Command expressed appreciation to members of the public for their cooperation and timely sharing of information, which played a crucial role in the success of the operation.
Reiterating the importance of community collaboration, the Commissioner assured residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring safety and security across Oyo State, while urging continued public support in the fight against crime.
