Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, on Monday held a brief private meeting with the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja.
The closed-door engagement took place shortly after the governor signed the 2026 Appropriation Bill during an event at the Executive Council Chamber, Governor’s Office, Agodi Secretariat, Ibadan.
Sources at the venue disclosed that the meeting which reportedly held at the Coffee Room, located opposite the photo gallery stand within the Executive Council Chamber, was not part of the official programme of events.
As of the time of filing this report, details of the discussion were not made public
Eyewitnesses noted that after the budget signing ceremony, the governor and invited dignitaries were proceeding to the photo gallery for group photographs when Governor Makinde requested a private moment with the Alaafin and the Olubadan, leading them into the Coffee Room.
The interaction lasted for about 15 minutes, during which other dignitaries waited at the photo gallery stand for the governor and the monarchs to return.
Although the content of the meeting remains unknown, observers suggested it may be connected to fostering unity between the two prominent traditional rulers, following recent social media reports alleging rivalry and disputes over status and seniority.
The 2026 budget signing ceremony was attended by traditional rulers, political office holders, members of the legislature, the judiciary, and other key stakeholders.
