The Ogun State Government has dismissed reports suggesting a confrontation between Governor Dapo Abiodun and the Council of Afobajes over the process of selecting a new Awujale of Ijebuland.

In a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, the government described the claims as false and misleading.

According to the statement, Governor Abiodun only held a “respectful consultative meeting” with members of the Council of Afobajes, in line with similar engagements he had previously held with the Olori Ebis, which helped resolve internal disagreements and foster unity.

“The governor held a respectful consultative meeting with the Council of Afobajes, consistent with meetings he held in the past with the Olori Ebis that were hitherto polarized, which fostered their harmonization,” the statement said, adding that such engagements had previously led to the withdrawal of a court case by one of the kingmakers.

The statement explained that discussions during the meeting focused strictly on issues of mutual interest and the overall progress of traditional institutions in Ijebuland.

It further debunked claims that the governor issued threats or ultimatums concerning the Awujale stool, stressing that statements allegedly attributed to him, including “No Kuye, No Awujale,” were entirely fabricated.

“Contrary to the rumours, Governor Abiodun did not issue threats or ultimatums. Statements attributed to him have no connection whatsoever with the governor or his administration,” the statement said.

The government maintained that no member of the Council of Afobajes could confirm such claims, insisting that the reports were the handiwork of mischief makers bent on spreading falsehoods.
