The Executive Chairman of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (OYO-SUBEB), Nureni Aderemi Adeniran, has charged pupils of public primary schools to remain focused and committed to their education, saying their background should not limit their aspirations.

Dr. Adeniran gave the charge during a visit to Ansar-ud-Deen Primary School, Oke-Fóko, Ibadan, as part of the Catch Them Young programme aimed at motivating pupils across public primary schools in Oyo State.

Addressing the pupils, he said many professionals and leaders emerged from public schools, stressing that determination, discipline and hard work are key to success, regardless of a child’s place of birth or learning environment.

Dr. Adeniran, who is an alumnus of the school, recalled his early struggles with science subjects but said persistence and encouragement helped him achieve his ambition of becoming a medical doctor and later earning postgraduate degrees.

He paid tribute to his teachers and parents, noting that teachers play a critical role in shaping children’s futures alongside families.

Speaking on infrastructure, the OYO-SUBEB Chairman said his administration has prioritised the rehabilitation and upgrading of public primary schools across the state, adding that improvements at Ansar-ud-Deen Primary School include renovated classrooms, fencing and new learning facilities.

As part of the visit, OYO-SUBEB distributed school sandals to some pupils to ease the burden on parents. Dr. Adeniran said the initiative would be extended to other basic schools across Oyo State.

He also urged parents and guardians to complement government efforts by ensuring proper guidance, welfare and moral upbringing of their children.

The visit attracted teachers, school administrators and community members, who commended the government’s commitment to improving basic education in the state.
