The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the dissolution of all its party structures in Imo, Abia, Enugu, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers during its national convention in Ibadan.
The decision was made as delegates gathered to deliberate on key issues shaping the party’s future. Party leaders confirmed that the move followed a motion presented by the host governor, Seyi Makinde, who urged the convention to ratify and approve executive committees already elected in states and zones where congresses had been completed.
Makinde explained that nationwide congresses conducted between 2024 and 2025 had successfully produced officials at all levels, including wards, local governments, states, zones, and national ex-officio positions. He emphasized that these elections were carried out in line with the Electoral Act 2022, the PDP constitution, and internal party regulations.
According to Makinde, both the National Executive Council (NEC) and the National Working Committee (NWC) had previously endorsed the conduct of the congresses and recognized the officers who emerged from them. He further stated that the process was generally free and fair across the country.
However, Makinde highlighted that five states—Imo, Abia, Enugu, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers—were exceptions, prompting the convention to dissolve all party structures at the ward, local government, and state levels in those regions. He added that the convention had authorized the publication of the decision as official notice to the public.
The motion received procedural support on the convention floor from National Auditor and NWC member Daniel Obiechina Okechukwu, ensuring its formal backing.
