Plateau State Governor , Caleb Mutfwang, has publicly distanced himself from the expulsion of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). His reaction comes amid rising controversy over the decisions taken at the party’s national convention in Ibadan.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Gyang Bere, Governor Mutfwang said he had no prior knowledge of the motion that led to the expulsion of Wike, former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, Samuel Anyanwu, and several other PDP chieftains.
According to the statement, the matter was not discussed at the PDP Governors Forum or at the National Executive Committee (NEC) before it was brought to the convention floor. Mutfwang added that the motion did not represent his position on the issue and stressed that removing key party figures at such a sensitive moment was not a strategic move.
He argued that the PDP was facing significant internal challenges and noted that unity, dialogue, and collective engagement were more important than punitive actions.
In a similar development, Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri also rejected the decision to expel Wike from the party. In a statement posted on his official social media page, Fintiri said he would not be part of any move that could deepen the crisis within the PDP.
Fintiri emphasised that the party’s stability must take priority, saying he remains committed to peace, reconciliation, and efforts aimed at rebuilding trust and cohesion within the PDP. He urged stakeholders to focus on healing divisions rather than widening them.
Both governors stressed that their stance is guided by a commitment to restoring unity and strengthening the party, which has been grappling with internal power struggles and multiple legal challenges.
